Applications:
1. Reinforcing agent for silicone rubber
Silicone rubber has good quality of resistance to high and low temperature and physiological inertia, used in thermal insulation against moisture, chemical corrosion, pollution , also used in aviation, aerospace, national defense industry, machinery manufacturing, architectural decoration, biomedical and other more than 40 departments with an irreplaceable position, being recognized as a new advanced synthetic material.
As unreinforced silicone rubber, its strength does not exceed 0.4Mpa, it is useless. The silicon light base (Si-OH) on the surface of fumed silica can form physical or chemical combination with silicone rubber molecules, forming a silicone rubber molecular adsorption layer on the surface of silicon dioxide, forming a three-dimensional network structure of silicon dioxide particles and rubber molecules, with excellent reinforcement properties. Silicone rubber being reinforced with fumed silicone,its strength can be increased by 40 times. It has a wide range of uses.
2. Reinforcing filler for adhesive and sealant
In adhesives and sealants, fumed silica is mainly used as a reinforcing agent and additive to control rheology and prevent sedimentation,preventing stream hanging and acting as reinforcement.
3.Additives for pigment, paint
Fumed silica is widely used in pigment and coatings, mainly as rheological additives and anti-settling agents.
In the liquid system, fumed silica is mainly used as a rheological control agent, which can effectively prevent the settling and delamination of pigments during storage. It can effectively prevent the coating in the curing process of the flow hanging phenomenon during application, so the coating is uniform, which is very important for some thick paste coatings. Fumed silica can also improve the weatherability and scratch resistance of the coating, improve the bonding strength between the coating and the substrate, and improve the hardness of the coating.
In powder systems, fumed silica can be used as a dispersant. It is beneficial to improve the fluidity and spraying performance of the powder, which can adsorb the moisture on the surface of the coating and prevent the caking of the coating.
Fumed silica can be used as a matting agent and thixotropic agent in high performance coatings without internal loss, such as marine coatings and industrial refinish paints. Fumed silica can also be used as a thixotropic agent and dispersant in environmentally friendly high solid content paints. In industrial (printing) inks, fumed silica can control the flow properties of the product. In photocopying or laser printing, fumed silica is used as a dispersant to control and regulate the flow properties of toner.
4. Reinforcing agent for rubber
Fumed silica can greatly improve the physical and mechanical properties of the rubber compound, by reducing the lag of the compound, and the rolling resistance of the tyre without losing the skid resistance.
In the rubber industry, the biggest drawback of carbon black is that it cannot be used to prepare colored products, although it is the most effective reinforcing agent. The reinforcing effect of fumed silica can reach or exceed the level of carbon black. In high-grade colored rubber products, fumed silica is the best reinforcing agent.
In the tyre industry, the adding of fumed silica to the tread compound can improve the performance of the tread resistance to cutting and tearing, and reduce the popping block. The adhesive property of cord fabric and adhesive material can be greatly improved when used in cord glue.
The small particle effect of fumed silica can also improve the wear resistance of rubber.
5. Additives for plastics and resins
Adding fumed silica to plastics can increase the strength, toughness, wearing resistance, water resistance and aging resistance of the material, and improve the processing performance of the material and the appearance of the product. For unsaturated polyresin containing 3-5% fumed silica, its wearing resistance can be increased 1-2 times, tensile strength can be doubled, and impact strength is also greatly improved. By adding fumed to silica modified polyamine, its tensile strength can be increased by 1.5 times and elongation of break can be increased by 3 times.
For epoxy resin system, the adding of 3% fumed silica can overcome the shortcomings of the stiffness and strength decline caused by the toughening of the elastomer, and can increase the impact strength of the composite system by 40% and the tensile strength by 21%.
Adding 4% fumed silica to PMMA , it can increase the notched impact strength of the material by more than 80% without reducing the optical transparency of the material.
6. Others
The use of fumed silica, known as "industrial monosodium glutamate", is still being vigorously developed, and has been increasingly favored by the chemical industry, especially the organosilicon industry, as an additive.
In the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) industry, CMP slurry contained in fumed silica occupies an important position in CMP, with the largest variety and amount. Fumed silica ensures high solid content (greater than 20%) and high purity of CMP slurry. At present, fumed silica CMP slurry has been widely used in the surface processing of silicon wafers and pot films.
In cosmetics, fumed silica can effectively reflect ultraviolet light, and it is easy to match other ingredients in cosmetics, non-toxic and tasteless, good stability, and does not decompose and discolor after being exposed to ultraviolet light.
In medicine, the hydrophilicity of fumed silica can be used to eliminate edema or reduce the secretion of wound inflammation;it is helpful to diarrhea patients to immobilize and bind fluids; it is widely used as a desiccant in dermatology. Its high adsorbability can be used to adsorb microorganisms and microviruses. Fumed silica can also be used as a drug carrier to prolong drug efficacy and promote drug absorption.
